2. Scope

This policy covers the website geoking.app. The Geoking app is covered by the privacy policy of the app (in German).

3. Visiting the Website

When you visit the website, our hosting provider processes your IP address, the page you request, the time of the request and details about your browser and device, to deliver the page and to count visits. For this counting it stores nothing in your browser (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our interest is to run and improve the website).

4. Website Statistics

To understand which pages are visited, how the browser game is used and which links to our app lead to a download, this website also uses the analytics service PostHog. We record the pages you visit, the time of the visit and when you leave a page, steps in the browser game (start, guess, result, share) and clicks on our links to the App Store and Google Play. Your browser also transmits your IP address and its browser identifier. Your browser sends this data to geoking.app/karte, which forwards it to PostHog. Your session is not recorded, and clicks are not captured across the board, only at the places listed above.

On your first visit, a notice at the bottom of the page asks whether we may use cookies. How we measure depends on your answer.

Without your consent, we store no ID in your browser for analytics, only your choice. Until you agree, and after you decline, we count your visit without cookies and without local storage. PostHog then derives a hash value on its server from a daily changing random value, your IP address, the address of this website and your browser identifier; this value is valid for that day only. Several page views on the same day count as one visit; we cannot recognize you across days. Because this counting neither stores information on your device nor reads any from it, it does not require consent under Section 25 TDDDG. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in privacy-friendly audience measurement (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object to this processing under Art. 21 GDPR (see Section 9).

With your consent ("Accept"), PostHog stores entries in your browser: cookies, for example holding a random ID; in local storage, data to recognize your browser, for example the same ID, the current session and the record of your consent; and session data in session storage, for example about the current session and the open tab and, if you arrive via a campaign link, where it came from (utm parameters). The cookies expire after twelve months; the local storage entries remain until you withdraw consent or clear your browser data; the browser deletes session storage when you close the tab. When the banner speaks of cookies, we mean all entries a site stores in your browser, including local storage and session storage. This lets us recognize returning visits over several days and see whether someone comes back after a few days and downloads the app. The legal basis is your consent (Section 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR): via "Privacy settings" in the footer of every page, then "Decline". PostHog then removes the cookies and these entries from your browser, and we go back to counting without storage.

We store your answer to the notice in your browser's local storage (entry "geoking-consent-v1") so that it does not reappear on every page. Storing it is strictly necessary for the notice (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG) and contains only your choice ("granted" or "denied").

On invitation pages for duels (/duel/…) and friendships (/f/…), which you reach through an invitation from the app and which only forward you to the app or the store, we show no notice and always count without storage as described above.

5. Contact by Email

If you email us, we process the details you send to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our interest is to handle requests).

6. Recipients

Service providers for hosting, website statistics and email work on our behalf.

7. Transfers to Third Countries

Some of these service providers process data in third countries, mainly the United States, on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or EU Standard Contractual Clauses. You can ask us for a copy of the Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. Storage Period

We keep website statistics and emails for as long as we need them for the purposes stated. Section 4 says how long entries stay in your browser.

9. Your Rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You can lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. To exercise your rights, write to dev@speakzmedia.de.

Right to object: Where we process data on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you can object to that processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation.

Withdrawal: You withdraw your consent to the ID for website statistics at any time with effect for the future via "Privacy settings" in the footer of every page (Section 4).

10. Obligation to Provide Data

You are not obliged to provide us with data. Without transmitting your IP address, your browser cannot load the website.
